So far this month, Nio was at 5,500, Xpeng at 4,700, Li Auto at 18,200 and Tesla at 31,000.
Most of the major electric vehicle (EV) makers saw a rebound in insurance registrations in China last week.
Insurance registrations for Nio (NYSE: NIO) vehicles in China were 2,200 for the week of March 11-17, up 10 percent from 2,000 the week before, according to figures shared today by its local peer Li Auto (NASDAQ: LI).
Li Auto has routinely shared these numbers since May 2023 on Tuesday afternoons.
As of March 17, Nio's cumulative insurance registrations so far this month stood at 5,500 units.
Nio delivered 8,132 vehicles in February, a decrease of 33.11 percent year-on-year and down 19.12 percent from January, according to figures it released on March 1.
Nio guided first-quarter vehicle deliveries to be in the range of 31,000 to 33,000 vehicles when it announced its fourth quarter 2023 financial results on March 5.
Considering it delivered 10,055 vehicles in January and 8,132 in February, the guidance means it expected to deliver between 12,813 and 14,813 vehicles in March.
Xpeng (NYSE: XPEV) had 2,200 vehicle insurance registrations last week, up 22.22 percent from 1,800 the week before.
So far this month, Xpeng had that number at 4,700 vehicles.
Xpeng delivered 4,545 vehicles in February, down 24.38 percent year-on-year and down 44.91 percent from January.
The company guided for first-quarter deliveries between 21,000 and 22,500 units in its earnings report released earlier today.
Considering that it delivered 8,250 units in January and 4,545 units in February, the guidance means Xpeng expected to deliver 8,205-9,705 units in March.
Li Auto (NASDAQ: LI) had 7,000 insurance registrations last week, down 24.73 percent from 9,300 the week before.
So far this month, Li Auto had the number at 18,200 units.
Li Auto delivered 20,251 vehicles in February, up 21.85 percent from a year earlier but down 35 percent from January.
Li Auto said on March 1 that it aims to rebound to 50,000 monthly deliveries in March.
Li Auto reported strong fourth-quarter earnings on February 26 and guided for first-quarter deliveries to be between 100,000 and 103,000 units.
Li Auto began deliveries of the Li Mega on March 11, but it did not announce how many of its first battery electric vehicle (BEV) model were delivered last week.
Huawei-backed Aito topped Li Auto's rankings of new carmakers with 8,600 insurance registrations last week.
So far this month, Aito was at 19,700 units.
Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA) had 12,300 insurance registrations in China last week, down 6.82 percent from 13,200 in the previous week.
So far this month, Tesla had 31,000 vehicle insurance registrations in China.
Tesla sold 60,365 China-made vehicles in February, including 30,141 sold in China and 30,224 exported from its Shanghai plant, according to the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA).
Tesla's retail sales in China in February were down 11.15 percent year-on-year and down 24.42 percent from January.
In the January-February period, Tesla's retail sales in China were 70,022 units, up 15.23 percent year-on-year.
Tesla has a factory in Shanghai that produces the Model 3 and Model Y, which not only delivers to local consumers, but is also an export hub.
BYD (HKG: 1211, OTCMKTS: BYDDY) had 56,300 insurance registrations in China last week, up 14.66 percent from 49,100 the week before.
So far this month, BYD had that number at 119,300 units.
BYD sold 122,311 new energy vehicles (NEVs) in February, down 36.84 percent year-on-year and down 39.30 percent from January.
On February 19, the second working day after the Chinese New Year holiday, BYD launched lower-priced Glory Editions for the Qin Plus and the Chaser 05, marking the launch of its latest round of major model updates.
Up to now, BYD has also updated a number of models including the Dolphin, Han, Tang, and Yuan Plus, all of which have seen prices drop.
BYD's premium brand Denza was at 2,200 units last week, doubling its previous week's 1,100. Denza was at 3,500 units so far this month.
Zeekr was at 2,800 units last week, up 47.37 percent from 1,900 the week before. It was at 6,000 units so far this month.
Leapmotor was at 3,200 last week, up 28 percent from 2,500 the week before. It was at 6,000 units so far this month.
