Zeekr, the premium electric vehicle (EV) subsidiary of Geely Holding Group, has rolled out a revamped version of its Zeekr X SUV, a rare move as the model is less than a year from its official launch.

Zeekr is offering a five-seat, four-wheel-drive version and a four-seat, rear-wheel-drive version of the Zeekr X for the 2024 model year vehicle, both of which has a starting price of RMB 200,000 ($27,880).

The model was initially launched on April 12, 2023, when it was offered in three versions, with one five-seat rear-wheel-drive version starting at RMB 189,800. The other two, both starting at RMB 209,800, were a five-seat four-wheel-drive version and a four-seat rear-wheel-drive version.

This means that the Zeekr has eliminated the lowest-priced five-seat rear-wheel drive version, and lowered the starting prices of the other two versions by RMB 9,800.

The 2024 Zeekr X continues to be powered by a Li-ion ternary battery pack with a capacity of 66 kWh and a CLTL range of up to 560 kilometers.

Zeekr unveiled Golden Battery's battery on December 14, which is based on lithium iron phosphate (LFP) chemistry, but was not used in the 2024 Zeekr X.

Built on Geely's Sustainable Electric Architecture (SEA), the Zeekr X is a typical compact SUV with length, width and height of 4,450mm, 1,836mm and 1,572mm respectively and a wheelbase of 2,750mm.

Zeekr hoped to use the SUV to disrupt the compact luxury market dominated by Mercedes-Benz, BMW and Audi when it launched the model nine months ago, but that seems to be difficult.

The Zeekr X is Zeekr's third model, and like its predecessors, the Zeekr 001 and Zeekr 009, is aimed at niche market. The Zeekr 007, which went on sale December 27, is the company's first model aimed at the mainstream EV market.

The five-seat version of the 2024 Zeekr X is powered by dual electric motors with a combined maximum power of 315 kW and takes 3.7 seconds to accelerate from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour. The model has a CLTC range of 512 km.

The four-seater version has only one rear motor with 200 kW and accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.8 seconds. This version of the CLTC has a range of 560 km.

Zeekr allows customers to optionally equip the four-seat Zeekr X with dual motors, which reduces the 0 to 100 km/h sprint time to 3.8 seconds, but also reduces the CLTC range to 500 km.

Zeekr delivered a record 13,476 vehicles in December, bringing full-year 2023 deliveries to 118,685 vehicles.

The Zeekr X delivered 2,329 units in December, down 50.59 percent from 4,714 in November, according to data compiled by CnEVPost. The model has accumulated 22,372 deliveries since May 2023, when deliveries began.

Zeekr's goal for 2024 is to deliver 230,000 vehicles, doubling from 2023, the company said Monday.
