Between August 1 and August 13, Tesla vehicles had 25,400 insurance registrations in China, Nio 7,000, Li Auto 13,500, and Xpeng 5,200.
Insurance registrations in China by major electric vehicle (EV) makers continued to slide last week, as deliveries were weak at the beginning of the month.
For the week of August 7 to August 13, Li Auto continued to top the list of China's new car makers with sales of 7,200 units, the company said today on Weibo.
As before, Li Auto didn't explain on what basis that weekly sales were counted, but apparently they were insurance registrations. The company suspended sharing those numbers in May, but has since resumed sharing them.
Li Auto's numbers last week were the same as the previous week that included the last day of July, as the company continues to suffer from capacity constraints. Between August 1 and August 13, insurance registrations for Li Auto vehicles were 13,500 units.
Li Xiang, Li Auto's founder, chairman and CEO, said on August 1 that capacity is the only bottleneck the company is currently facing, and that it has no solution this quarter.
Nio (NYSE: NIO) saw insurance registrations of 3,300 units last week, down 23.26 percent from 4,300 units in the previous week.
Between August 1 and August 13, Nio had 7,000 insured registrations in China.
Bank of America said in an August 10 research note that Nio's 20,462 deliveries in July exceeded previous forecasts and saw strong sales momentum continuing into the fourth quarter.
Xpeng (NYSE: XPEV) were 2,800 last week, down 9.68 percent from 3,100 in the previous week. Between August 1 and August 13, Xpeng had that figure at 5,200 units.
Xpeng will announce its unaudited financial results for the second quarter on Friday, August 18, before the US markets open.
Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA) was one of the few of the major EV players to rise last week with 14,000 insured registrations in China, up 9.38 percent from the previous week's 12,800 units.
Between August 1 and August 13, 25,400 Tesla vehicles were registered for insurance in China.
On August 14, Tesla cut prices in China for two versions of its hot-selling SUV, the Model Y, and began offering insurance subsidies for the inventory of Model 3 sedans.
BYD's insurance registrations last week were 44,400, basically flat from the previous week's 44,300. Between August 1 and August 13, BYD saw that figure at 79,300 units.
BYD saw its 5 millionth NEV roll off the assembly line on August 9, and the company will hold a brand and technology launch on August 16 for its new sub-brand, Fang Cheng Bao.
Another BYD sub-brand, Denza, had 2,600 insurance registrations last week, an increase of 8.33 percent from 2,400 units in the previous week. Between August 1 and August 13, Denza had the figure at 4,500 units.
GAC Aion was at 9,900 last week, up 16.47 percent from 8,500 units the week before. Between August 1 and August 13, that figure was 16,800 for the GAC Aion.
Leapmotor was at 2,600 units last week, down 7.14 percent from the previous week, and at 4,800 units from August 1 to August 13.
Neta was at 1,900 units last week, down 17.39 percent from the previous week, and was at 3,900 units from August 1 to August 13.
