This article aims to answer that question and compare the number of employees at Nio, Xpeng (NYSE: XPEV), and Li Auto (NASDAQ: LI), as well as the percentage of their employees in different functions.
As of December 31, 2022, Nio had 26,763 full-time employees, according to its 2022 annual report.
Nio has the largest number of employees in the electric vehicle (EV) trio in China. As of December 31, 2022, Li Auto and Xpeng had 19,396 and 15,829 employees, respectively, according to their 2022 annual reports.

Xpeng's manufacturing employees numbered 2,647, or 2.9 percent of all employees. Its general and administration employees numbered 87, or just 0.5 percent of the total.
Li Auto had 19,396 employees at the end of last year, with sales and marketing employees numbering 9,199, or 47.4 percent of all employees.
Li Auto has the fewest R&D employees of the three companies with 4,838 or 24.9 percent of all employees.
Li Auto has the largest production workforce of the three companies with 4,318 employees or 22.3 percent of the total as of the end of 2022.
It has 1,041 general and administrative support employees, or 5.4 percent.
