Behind Nio reaching the latest milestone is the rapid rise of high-end smart electric vehicles in China, the company said in a post on its app.

Penetration of new energy vehicles (NEVs) in China has climbed rapidly from 5.9 percent in 2019 to 27.4 percent as of November this year, with the highest penetration rate in a single month already topping 30 percent, the article said.

From January to November, Nio's share of the high-end pure electric vehicle market with an average transaction price of more than RMB 400,000 ($57,320) was over 70 percent, the article reads.

To date, Nio has 395 Nio Spaces and Nio Houses worldwide, as well as 1,263 battery swap stations, 12,785 charging piles, and access to over 998,000 third-party charging piles, according to the article.

Nio currently sells six models in China, including three models based on the NT 1.0 platform -- ES8, ES6 and EC6 -- and three models based on the NT 2.0 platform -- ES7, ET7 and ET5.

The ET5 is produced at its second plant in NeoPark, and all other models are currently produced at its first plant in partnership with JAC Group.

On November 10, William Li, Nio's founder, chairman and CEO, said in a conference call after the company announced its third-quarter earnings that Nio will launch five models by the first half of next year and will have a total of eight available models by June.

Li did not provide any further details at the time, but what can be expected is that the five models to be released will include the switch of the ES8, ES6 and EC6 to the NT 2.0 platform, as well as two other new models.

Asked at a customer engagement event on Saturday which models the company would launch on Nio Day 2022, Li said the company would launch two new models at the upcoming event.
