Low temperatures are not kind to electric vehicles, especially in the cold weather of northern China. To help these customers get the most out of their vehicles, Nio is offering them some free services.
Nio announced Monday the launch of what it calls its "Warm Winter Initiative," offering users in eight provinces in northern China five free services: free labor for winter tire replacement, free winter tire storage, free vehicle safety inspection, free antifreeze, and free glass water.
These eight provinces - Xinjiang, Qinghai, Ningxia, Gansu, Inner Mongolia, Liaoning, Jilin and Heilongjiang, are the regions with the lowest winter temperatures in China.
The service is valid from now until February 28, 2022, covering the week-long Chinese Lunar New Year holiday that begins February 1.
Notably, Nio continues to emphasize its openness, saying that non-Nio vehicles can also use these services at Nio service centers, only for a fee.
This is the latest move by Nio to cater to users in the north, and makes the company a rare local carmaker to do so.
On April 19, the first day of the Shanghai Auto Show, Nio unveiled its Power North program to enhance the electric vehicle replenishment experience for customers in eight northern provinces of China.
The company said it plans to have 100 battery swap stations, 120 mobile charging vehicles, 500 supercharging stations, over 2,000 supercharging piles and over 10,000 destination charging piles in the eight provinces within the next three years.
Nio said at the time that it wanted to enhance the replenishment experience for electric vehicle users in these areas by vigorously deploying charging infrastructure, including battery swap stations, supercharging stations, destination charging stations, mobile charging vehicles, and using third-party facilities.
On May 9, Nio's first facility with both second-generation battery swap stations and charging stations went live in the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region in northwest China, marking the official implementation of the program.
On July 1, Nio said that from July 1, 2021 to December 31, 2024, all Nio vehicles will be eligible for 1,000 free charging credits in eight regions in northern China using Nio-branded public charging pads.
On July 15, it put five Nio charging stations into operation in Inner Mongolia in northern China.
On July 28, it completed the layout of charging routes along the Dushanzi-Kuqa highway, covering a total distance of 560km, the latest charging route under the program.
