Han sold 8,522 units in July, up 607 percent year-over-year and up 1.6 percent from June, according to data released by the company on Aug. 6.

BYD Han's cumulative sales have reached 101,309 units since its launch in July last year, making it the fastest Chinese brand midsize sedan ever to exceed 100,000 sales, the company said.

BYD Han includes the Han EV, an all-electric version with an NEDC range of 605 kilometers, and the Han DM, a hybrid model with a range of 81 kilometers on pure electric power, and BYD's Han sales figures are for both models combined.

Han EV's July sales were 5,907 units, up 1 percent from June; Han DM's July sales were 2,615 units, up 1 percent from June, according to BYD.

Han EV's cumulative sales since its launch were 73,359 units and Han DM's cumulative sales were 27,950 units, ranking No. 1 among mid-size pure-electric sedans and plug-in hybrid sedans of local brands, respectively, the company said.

In June, BYD Han EV ranked second in China's new energy vehicle sales, behind 's Li ONE with 7,713 units, and ahead of the P7 with 4,730 units and the ES6 with 3,755 units.

Han was originally developed to accelerate the replacement of fuel-fired luxury cars by new energy luxury cars, and the Han EV is the first model to be equipped with a blade battery.

With a 0-100 km acceleration time of 3.9 seconds, the Han EV 4WD performance version is the fastest accelerating mass-produced new energy sedan in China, the company said.

BYD Han models are priced in the RMB 219,800 ($33,935) to RMB 279,500 range, with the Han EV, the top-selling model, reaching an average sales price of more than RMB 260,000 and Han's top trim level accounting for 60 percent of overall sales.
