ByteDance, the owner of TikTok and its Chinese version Douyin, recently launched a logo called "Douyin Car" that sparked rumors that it might be involved in building cars. But it turns out that it is only being used to provide information about cars.

ByteDance recently launched the "Douyin Car" mini-program within the Douyin App, which features the same logo that was widely reported last week.

The mini-program currently provides the latest car information services, mainly in the form of short videos.

It currently offers four sections: influencer list, activity center, creation template and selected columns.

Its home page also has recommended topics related to each car, and users can watch short videos according to their different needs such as buying, selling, and using cars.

Last week, ByteDance was reported to have launched a logo called "Douyin Car", and Tech Planet later reported that ByteDance had registered the trademark "ByteDance Car". These developments suggested that the company may be entering the carmaking business.

In April, Chongqing Wanxiang Youche Technology Co., Ltd. was officially established with a focus on Internet and automotive-related businesses, and is 100 percent owned by a wholly-owned subsidiary of ByteDance.

ByteDance executives have visited Great Wall Motors and a car networking company owned by Geely, as previously reported by 36kr.

They also visited for research, and the two sides usually have several exchanges on the connected car business, the report said.
