Chinese self-driving company Pony.ai announced on June 22 that fully driverless vehicles have now joined the Guangzhou Robotaxi fleet, and the public will have the opportunity to see these vehicles on the streets of Nansha, Guangzhou.

The vehicles operate in areas of the Nansha District in Guangzhou that have good transportation facilities, including the Jiaomen River and Mingzhu Bay. In fully driverless vehicles, the driver's seat will no longer be staffed by a safety officer.

Pony.ai became the first company to launch Robotaxi in China in December 2018.

It launched California's first self-driving travel service for the public in October 2019.

Pony.ai announced further expansion of its self-driving mobility service PonyPilot+ in Guangzhou and Beijing on April 28 and May 13, respectively.

Pony.ai is steadily advancing driverless development in China and the US simultaneously. Pony.ai's fully driverless vehicles have now begun regular test operations in Fremont, Irvine, and Milpitas, California.

Founded in late 2016, Pony.ai was co-founded by Chinese computer legend Lou Tiancheng and former Baidu North America R&D Director Architect James Peng to provide full-stack autonomous driving technology.

The Pony.ai team of over 500 people has R&D centers in Silicon Valley, Guangzhou, Beijing, and Shanghai.
