Chinese tech giant will jointly develop next-generation smart electric vehicles with GAC Aion, with each side investing more than 100 people in R&D teams, cls.cn reported Tuesday citing sources familiar with the matter.

GAC Aion responded that Huawei and GAC Aion have been jointly building new technologies since 2019, and GAC signed a strategic cooperation agreement with Huawei at that time, according to thepaper.cn.

Huawei, for its part, said it would provide components and technology to GAC Aion.

In November 2020, the two companies collaborated and unveiled the world's first 5G car, the Aion V, equipped with Huawei's latest Balong 5000 5G chip.

The car has features including one-touch remote parking and AR real-world navigation and is even equipped with L3-level high-precision autonomous driving capabilities.

This car is also equipped with the first integrated 5G+C-V2X in-vehicle intelligent communication system independently developed by GAC, which has the advantages of high speed, low latency, and large connection range.

The application of 5G technology has led to a huge improvement in the safety and reliability of autonomous driving. The application of 5G technology greatly improves the efficiency of the vehicle's sensing and getting feedback from the outside world, making autonomous driving safer and more reliable.

In 2017, GAC Group started strategic cooperation with Huawei in the field of intelligently networked electric vehicle technology, to jointly create a digital platform that can be continuously iterated and upgraded.
