When Chinese consumers' enthusiasm for new energy vehicles will recede seems to remain unseen, as BYD is also swamped with orders.
BYD Han is still facing capacity shortages, with orders now taking around 8 weeks to be delivered, BYD Auto Sales General Manager Zhao Changjiang said on Weibo on Wednesday, adding that he "hopes consumers will understand."
BYD sold 28,841 new energy vehicles in December, up 120 percent from 13,099 units in the same month of 2019, the company announced on Tuesday on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange.
The company sold 27,594 new energy passenger vehicles in December, including 19,482 pure electric vehicles, and 8,112 plug-in hybrid vehicles.
BYD Han sold 12,089 units in December, up 19.6 percent from November. This is the second consecutive month that the Han has sold more than 10,000 units, bringing the cumulative sales of the model to 40,556 units.

BYD's cumulative sales of new energy vehicles for the full year 2020 were 189,700 units, down 17.35 percent year-over-year.
The company sold 179,054 new energy passenger vehicles in 2020, down 18.37 percent year-over-year. Of these, 130,970 were pure electric vehicles, down 11 percent year-on-year.
In early December, BYD said during an exchange with investors on its online platform that it currently has sufficient orders on hand for "Han" and that production capacity is in the process of being gradually released.
BYD also revealed last year that BYD Han had received over 30,000 orders before its launch in July, but there is a big shortfall in Han deliveries due to the production capacity of blade battery.
BYD Auto recently released a new brand identity, turning the previously used red BYD logo into a more metallic silver-gray.
