Consumers who ordered the China-made Model Y will now have to wait longer than the early birds.

Information on China's official website shows that the expected delivery date for the long-range version of the Model Y has changed to the second quarter of 2021, compared to the previous delivery in January this year. This is only six days after the China-made Model Y went on sale.

The long-range and performance versions of the model are priced at RMB 339,900 and RMB 369,900 respectively, down RMB 148,100 and RMB 165,100 respectively from the previous imported version.

After the China-made Model Y went on sale, the order page on Tesla's website was down for a while, just like the iPhone 12 was when it went on sale in China.

The official Tesla customer support Weibo said at the time that the website order page may be temporarily unavailable due to a surge in visits.

In addition, according to thepaper.cn, sales staff at two Tesla experience stores in downtown Shanghai said, "If you place an order for a Model Y now, it will definitely not be delivered before the Chinese New Year. Orders placed during the New Year's Day holiday period are likely to be delivered before the Spring Festival, and reservations now are estimated to have to wait until February-March at the earliest."

Previously there were rumors that China-made Model Y orders have reached 100,000. Tesla said on January 5 that the data was unreliable and that no Model Y orders had been tallied.

According to Tesla's plan, the long-range version has been delivered since January and the performance version since the third quarter of this year, with no change in the latter's current delivery schedule.
