Baidu's Robin Li: Autonomous driving will be commercially available in 5 years-CnEVPost

Baidu Chairman and CEO Robin Li predicted that in five years' time, automated driving will be fully commercialized, greatly reducing congestion and eliminating the need for car purchase and traffic restrictions in China.

He said that in the next five years, many cities in China will see a significant reduction in congestion and will no longer need to limit the number of cars that can be purchased and used.

As driverless cars become more common, the traffic accident rate will also be greatly reduced.

Robin Li pointed out that, through the estimation, the construction of intelligent transportation infrastructure based on vehicle-road collaboration will be able to improve the efficiency of 15% - 30%, thus contributing to an absolute growth of 2.4% - 4.8% of GDP.

At the meeting, Baidu also released the "5G Cloud Driving" for the first time.

Baidu proposed that the three elements of unmanned driving are: front-loaded mass production, AI driver, 5G cloud driving.

The "5G Cloud Driver" is an important supporting service for driverless, based on 5G, intelligent transportation, V2X, and other new infrastructure facilities, which can provide assistance for the driverless system.

Robin Li mentioned in the live broadcast because the "AI driver" has been able to cope with most road conditions, extreme scenarios do not often occur, so unlike ordinary safety officers, the cloud driver can serve many cars.

Future driverless vehicles can remove the safety officer, equipped with safety officers in the cloud. "5G cloud driver" cloud driver has become a new profession in the AI era.

Baidu is currently equipped with enough 5G cloud driver safety officers to ensure a 100% response to the Baidu Apollo auto taxi across the country.
