ByteDance is quietly forming a car networking team and plans to launch its own vehicle infotainment system solution to achieve its mobile Internet products such as Douyin and Jinri Toutiao in the car terminal, 36Kr reported citing sources.

36Kr sought clarification from ByteDance regarding the above information and, as of press time, had received no response.

ByteDance's official website has also put up job postings related to automotive networking, and there are currently two positions available, Senior Product Manager and Senior Commercial Manager.

The Senior Product Manager for car networking team is responsible for the design and planning of the overall vehicle infotainment system (IVI).

The Commercial Manager is mainly responsible for the business development of ByteDance's various mobile Internet products, large amount of quality content and leading technology solutions in the field of car networking and smart hardware; exploring and realizing the commercialization income of Internet toB in the above fields; responsible for the landing management of cooperative projects in the field of car networking and smart hardware, etc.

A source close to ByteDance executives told 36Kr, "The R&D staff for the connected car team was mainly allocated from the Smartisan team, with about 20 people, and the product and business were recruited from outside." At the moment, this car networking product project is still in its early stages, with limited open positions, "no more than five people per position to recruit".

In January 2019, ByteDance acquired partial patent rights to Smartisan Technologies to explore businesses related to the education sector, and a large number of Smartisan Technologies employees' contracts were transferred to ByteDance's name.
