Tesla's Shanghai factory took 32 months to produce its first one million vehicles, and just 13 months to get from its two millionth to the three millionth vehicle.

In the third quarter, Tesla China sold 249,135 vehicles, contributing 53.82 percent of Tesla's global deliveries.

Tesla delivered 462,890 vehicles in the third quarter, higher than BYD's BEV sales of 443,426, though the latter's hybrid models are growing strongly.

By the end of August, Tesla had exported a total of 966,945 vehicles from China, according to data compiled by CnEVPost.

Tesla has further extended its 5-year 0-interest loan in China to October 31, making this car-buying incentive, which began in April, essentially the norm.

In the January-August period, BYD was No. 1 in the NEV market with a 34.6 percent share, while Tesla was No. 3 with 6.5 percent.

Tesla sold 63,456 vehicles in China in August, the highest of the year, up 37.27 percent from July, though down 1.91 percent year-on-year.

Tesla plans to launch FSD in China and Europe in the first quarter of 2025, pending regulatory approval. This is a slight delay from previous plans.

Tesla plans to produce a 6-seat version of the Model Y in China starting in late 2025, having asked suppliers to prepare for double-digit growth in Model Y production at its Shanghai plant, according to Reuters.

Tesla China sold 86,697 vehicles in August, including those sold in China and those exported to overseas markets, up 16.97 percent from July and up 3.02 percent year-on-year.
