BYD officially launched its updated Sealion 05 series, as the Chinese automaker aims to consolidate its market share through lower prices and upgraded technology.
The revamped Sealion 05 SUV (sport utility vehicle) lineup includes the plug-in hybrid Sealion 05 DM-i and the battery-electric Sealion 05 EV, continuing the approach of their predecessors.
Prices for the Sealion 05 DM-i range from 97,900 yuan ($14,360) to 127,900 yuan. The Sealion 05 EV is priced between 119,900 yuan and 145,900 yuan.
The updated models feature significant upgrades in power and range performance. The pure electric versions are all equipped with BYD's second-generation Blade Battery and ultra-fast flash charging technology.
The Sealion 05 EV requires only five minutes to basically complete its energy replenishment. Its maximum pure electric range has been extended to 630 kilometers, with a top 0-100 km/h acceleration time of 5.9 seconds.
The Sealion 05 DM-i continues to utilize BYD's fifth-generation DM technology. The model's fuel consumption at low battery charge has been reduced to 3.1 liters per 100 kilometers, while its combined range reaches up to 2,105 kilometers on a full tank and full charge.
The hybrid models are powered by either a 26.628 kWh or 34.275 kWh battery pack, delivering a CLTC pure electric range of 220 km or 305 km.
In terms of smart driving assistance, the new vehicles offer consumers more advanced options. High-end trims come standard with the driving assistance system known as God's Eye C.
Additionally, consumers can opt to install LiDAR. This enables the vehicle to support the higher-level God's Eye B assisted driving features, covering scenarios such as urban navigate-on-autopilot.
The new Sealion 05 retains the ocean aesthetics design language and features minor adjustments to its body dimensions. The new car has a wheelbase of 2,770 millimeters and is equipped with a high-end intelligent cockpit system.
The launch of this model further enriches the product matrix of BYD's Ocean lineup. It also marks the company's latest move to maintain its pricing advantage in China's fiercely competitive EV market.
