BYD launched the Yuan Pro DM-i plug-in hybrid SUV in Mexico on April 10, marking a further expansion in the Latin American market for the Chinese auto giant.

The model features BYD's DM-i super hybrid technology, delivering a combined range of up to 1,045 kilometers under the NEDC cycle, according to a press release issued by the company on Tuesday.

The SUV injects new competitive vitality into Mexico's currently limited plug-in hybrid SUV market through its electric driving experience, ultra-low fuel consumption and advanced smart configurations, BYD said.

The launch of the Yuan Pro DM-i reflects the company's long-term commitment to the Mexican market, Jorge Vallejo, passenger car sales director of BYD Mexico, said at the launch event.

BYD will introduce more new energy vehicle (NEV) products and technologies to Mexico in the future, providing consumers with more diverse product choices, Vallejo said.

BYD's management said at an analyst briefing last month that the company is confident in achieving its vehicle export target of 1.5 million units in 2026.

The new figure is 15% higher than the overseas sales target of 1.3 million units BYD announced earlier this year, as the company actively leverages growth in international markets to offset softer demand in China.

BYD posted a strong overseas market performance for the full year of 2025, exporting a total of 1.046 million NEVs, including passenger and commercial vehicles, up more than 150% year-on-year.

The company's overseas sales structure maintains a balanced distribution among Europe, North America and the ASEAN region, with each of the three regions accounting for about a third of its total sales last year.

In the first quarter of this year, BYD sold 321,165 vehicles overseas, a year-on-year increase of 55.84%, according to data compiled by CnEVPost.

BYD management expressed confidence in achieving 1.5 million vehicle exports in 2026.
