Nio Inc's sub-brand Onvo will launch an updated version of the L90 later this month to revitalize the sales performance of the large electric SUV (sport utility vehicle).

The 2026 model of the Onvo L90 will be launched in late April, adding a flagship smart driving version equipped with LiDAR, Nio said Wednesday on Weibo.

Onvo's new SUV model, the L80, is also launching soon, Nio added.

The imminent launch of the LiDAR-equipped Onvo L90 marks a significant shift in the brand's autonomous driving sensor strategy, as Onvo's existing models rely entirely on a pure-vision approach.

Adding the LiDAR option is part of Onvo's efforts to flexibly adjust its product planning in response to calls from Chinese consumers.

The updated L90 is also expected to offer a two-tone body color option, somewhat similar to what the main Nio brand did with its flagship ET9 sedan, according to previous regulatory filings.

Onvo president Shen Fei previously said that the LiDAR-equipped L90 is scheduled to hit the market in the second quarter, and the upgraded model will be more expensive.

The current Onvo L90 starts at 265,800 yuan ($38,600), including the battery pack.

Under the BaaS (battery as a service) battery rental scheme, its starting price is 179,800 yuan, with a monthly battery subscription fee of 899 yuan.

The L90 using the pure-vision smart driving solution will continue to be offered and will also keep receiving software updates for the system, Shen previously said.

The Onvo brand is facing pressure to boost demand in China's fiercely competitive EV market, but recent sales data showed positive momentum.

The brand delivered 6,877 new cars in March, up 130.7% from February and up 42.7% year-on-year.

Among them, the L90 delivered 3,360 units in March, a 155.1% month-on-month increase, recovering from the seasonal weakness at the beginning of the year.

Since deliveries began in August 2025, cumulative deliveries of the Onvo L90 have reached 49,527 units, according to data released by Onvo on Wednesday.

Onvo officially launched the L90 on July 31, 2025, and began deliveries of the SUV the following day on August 1.

The upcoming updated L90 comes less than a year after the SUV's initial launch, highlighting the intense competition in the Chinese EV market.

In addition to the updated L90, the Onvo brand also plans to release full product details of the new five-seat L80 SUV in late April, Nio co-founder and president Qin Lihong said last month.

In mid-May, aligning with the Onvo brand's second-anniversary events, the L80 will officially announce its pricing and begin deliveries, Qin said.

The L80 is the Onvo brand's most important model this year, and its pricing is expected to fall between the L90 and L60 to fill the price gap in its product lineup.

The L60 is Onvo's first model, with a starting price of 206,900 yuan including the battery pack.

Regulatory filings from last month showed that the L60 will also receive a LiDAR option in a future update.

The two models had previously been part of a clear plan, but were put on hold during Nio's CBU reform early last year.
