Arcfox, the electric vehicle (EV) unit of Beijing Automotive Group (BAIC Group), launched the updated Alpha S5 on Wednesday, offering both battery electric vehicle (BEV) and extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) variants for the first time.
To vie for more market share in the fiercely competitive Chinese EV market, Arcfox has adopted an aggressive pricing strategy for the new model.
The updated Alpha S5 is available in seven variants, including three EREV variants and four BEV variants, with a post-discount starting price of RMB 99,800 ($14,520). It offered only BEV options before.
The all-new Alpha S5 is a mid-size sedan measuring 4,886 mm in length, 1,930 mm in width, and 1,480 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,900 mm.
The starting prices for its EREV variants are RMB 104,800, RMB 111,800, and RMB 124,800, respectively. The BEV variants start at RMB 116,800, RMB 128,800, RMB 141,800, and RMB 173,800, respectively.
To achieve higher market acceptance, the company is offering a launch discount of RMB 5,000 across the entire new Alpha S5 lineup.
The all-new Alpha S5 EREV is equipped with a 1.5L engine acting as a range extender. It features an electric motor with a maximum power of 200 kW and a peak torque of 365 Nm. This powertrain enables the vehicle to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.5 seconds.
The extended-range models are powered by lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries, providing a CLTC battery-electric range of 230 km and a combined range of up to 1,450 km.
The single-motor versions of the all-new Alpha S5 BEV offer two motor options, with maximum power outputs of 185 kW and 200 kW, and peak torques of 320 Nm and 360 Nm, respectively. These two variants take 7 seconds and 6.8 seconds to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h.
The four-wheel-drive version of the all-new Alpha S5 BEV is equipped with motors delivering a maximum power of 390 kW and a peak torque of 690 Nm, allowing it to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.7 seconds.
The BEV versions offer a battery range of 630 to 720 km and can be charged from 30% to 80% in less than 15 minutes.
The all-new Alpha S5 is equipped with a premium audio system consisting of 19 speakers and features a comfortable zero-gravity seat for the front passenger.
The core computing power of the vehicle's system is supported by Qualcomm's 8775 chip, which drives both the smart driving and smart cabin functions.
