BYD (HKG: 1211, OTCMKTS: BYDDY) will hold a tech event in Shenzhen on March 5 to launch its second-generation blade battery and megawatt flash-charging technology. It will also roll out multiple new models from its main and sub-brands.

Amid weak domestic demand and a six-month consecutive sales slump, the market has high expectations for these technologies and new vehicle models.

Here is what BYD has announced so far.

Next-gen blade battery and flash-charging

BYD has dubbed the event a "disruptive technology" launch, with the second-generation blade battery and megawatt flash-charging taking center stage. The company said earlier today that it will "change the world with technology once again."

The second-generation blade battery will significantly boost energy density while maintaining high safety. This will support a pure electric range of over 1,000 kilometers.

The accompanying mega-charging technology is expected to deliver up to 2,100 kW of charging power, doubling the capacity of the first generation, according to market rumors.

The company already began large-scale installation of its new megawatt flash-charging piles in February. These facilities feature a cyan exterior and a T-shaped design.

Deutsche Bank said in a research note last month that BYD's second-generation megawatt charging system will significantly enhance the company's product competitiveness.

The bank expects BYD's full-year 2026 sales to rebound, growing 6% year-on-year to reach 4.9 million vehicles.

New BYD brand models

Datang, the first D-class flagship SUV (sport utility vehicle) in BYD's Dynasty lineup, will officially debut at the March 5 event. It features a full-domain 1,000V high-voltage architecture and a 2+2+3 seating layout.

The Datang's interior includes a roof-mounted screen for the second row, a refrigerator, and zero-gravity seats. It is expected to achieve a peak charging power of 1,000 kW.

The Song Ultra EV, the Dynasty lineup' first B-class pure electric SUV, will begin pre-sales at the event. The vehicle has a 2,840 mm wheelbase and a maximum range of 710 kilometers.

The Seal 08, the new flagship sedan of the Ocean lineup, will also make its global debut. It is expected to integrate mega-charging, rear-wheel steering, and roof-mounted LiDAR.

The all-new Denza Z9GT will receive a tech refresh at the event. The maximum range of its pure electric version will be significantly increased to 1,036 kilometers.

This makes it the vehicle with the world's longest pure electric range to date. It is expected to further consolidate Denza's position in the premium NEV wagon market.

The new model adds a green exterior color option and moves the LiDAR to the roof. It will continue to offer a tri-motor option for its powertrain.

Fang Cheng Bao models

Fang Cheng Bao will launch the new Tai 3 flash-charging edition and Tai 7 EV flash-charging edition at the event to further enrich its product matrix.

The pure electric Tai 7 EV shares the same dimensions as the plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) version. It has a wheelbase of 2,920 mm, according to previous regulatory filings.

The dual-motor version of the Tai 7 EV boasts a maximum combined power of 515 kW. It comes standard with a panoramic canopy and offers optional features like LiDAR and a tow hook.

Yangwang models

The 2026 U7 sedan from the ultra-luxury brand Yangwang will be the first to feature the second-generation blade battery. It will be equipped with a massive 150-kWh battery pack.

The model achieves an ultra-long pure electric range of 1,006 kilometers. This breaks the "impossible triangle" of horsepower, range, and fast charging for premium flagship models, a Yangwang executive said earlier today.

Additionally, the 2026 Yangwang U8 and U8L will be launched at the same event. The U8 recently completed over 1,000 extreme 35-degree hill climb tests in an indoor simulation facility.

BYD's February NEV sales totaled 190,190 units, marking the sixth consecutive month of decline.
