This could prevent drivers from accessing essential vehicle information and functions — such as speed data, fault alerts, and defrost/demist capabilities — posing safety risks.

Nio will provide free over-the-air (OTA) software updates to affected vehicles, upgrading them to Aspen 3.5.6, Alder 2.1.0, or a newer version.

For vehicles unable to receive the OTA update, Nio will contact users through its service centers to implement the recall and eliminate the safety risk.

Vehicles that have already received the optimized software update do not require this recall.

Aspen is the software architecture for Nio's NT 1.0 platform models, utilizing the Mobileye EyeQ4 smart driving chip.

NT 2.0 platform models employ the Banyan system software with four Nvidia Orin X smart driving chips.

Nio models equipped with the in-house developed Shenji NX9031 smart driving chip utilize the Cedar and Cedar S systems.

This recall represents a rare instance in the Chinese market involving a domestic automaker, as such recalls are typically seen among foreign automakers including Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA).

In one of China's largest recalls, Tesla announced in December 2023 that it was recalling over 1.6 million vehicles in China due to software issues.

BMW, Mercedes-Benz, and Ford have also recalled EVs in China due to software problems.

Nio has projected it will achieve its first quarterly profit under both non-GAAP and GAAP standards, injecting rare confidence into shareholders and car owners.
