China's humanoid robot manufacturer Unitree demonstrated the reliability of its G1 robot in extreme cold conditions as it completed the challenge of traversing a snowfield.

The humanoid robot walked over 130,000 steps across a -47.4°C snowfield in Xinjiang's Altay region, mapping out a Winter Olympics emblem measuring 186 meters long and 100 meters wide, according to a Sunday report by state Chinese broadcaster CCTV.

This marks the first instance of autonomous walking by a humanoid robot in extreme cold conditions, the report noted.

Unitree ranks among China's leading humanoid robot manufacturers, with shipments exceeding 5,500 units in 2025, according to data released by the company last month.

The G1 humanoid robot, launched by the company in May 2024, carries a starting price of RMB 99,000 ($14,240) in China.

Weighing about 35 kg and standing about 127 cm tall, the robot features 23 to 43 joint motors with a maximum joint torque of 120 Nm.

The robot is equipped with UnifoLM — Unitree's Robot Unified Large Model — and supports reinforcement learning.

It has an operating endurance of about 2 hours and is equipped with 3D LiDAR and depth cameras.

Founded in 2016 in Hangzhou, Zhejiang province, Unitree is a robotics company specializing in the R&D, production, and sales of consumer-grade and industrial-grade high-performance robots and dexterous robotic arms.
