China EV battery installations rise 40.4% to 769.7 GWh in 2025

• LFP battery installations reached 625.3 GWh in 2025, accounting for 81.2% of total installations and growing 52.9% year-on-year.
• Power battery exports reached 189.7 GWh in 2025, accounting for 62.2% of total exports and marking a 41.9% year-on-year increase.

China's electric vehicle (EV) battery installations continued robust growth last month, keeping the full-year installation volume strong.

In December, China's power battery installations reached 98.1 GWh, marking a 35.1% year-on-year increase and a 4.9% rise from November, according to data released Friday by the China Automotive Battery Innovation Alliance (CABIA).

Lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries maintained their dominant position, accounting for 79.8 GWh of December installations — 81.3% of the total. This represents a 33.7% year-on-year increase and a 5.9% rise from November.

Ternary lithium battery installations in December came in at 18.2 GWh, accounting for 18.6% of total installations. This represents a 40.5% year-on-year increase and a 0.2% rise from November.

For the full year 2025, China's power battery installations totaled 769.7 GWh, marking a 40.4% year-on-year increase.

China's combined production of power and energy storage batteries in December reached 201.7 GWh, up 62.1% year-on-year and up 14.4% month-on-month.

LFP battery production in December totaled 160.5 GWh, rising 63.5% year-on-year and up 14.9% month-on-month.

Ternary battery production in December were 40.6 GWh, up 56.4% year-on-year and up 11.5% month-on-month.

For the full year 2025, China's total production of power and energy storage batteries amounted to 1,755.6 GWh, a 60.1% increase year-on-year.

China's total exports of power and energy storage batteries in December reached 32.6 GWh, up 49.2% year-on-year and up 1.3% month-on-month, accounting for 16.4% of that month's sales.

Power battery exports in December totaled 19.0 GWh, representing 58.4% of total exports, a 47.1% year-on-year increase but a 10.4% month-on-month decrease.

Energy storage battery exports in December reached 13.6 GWh, accounting for 41.6% of total exports, up 52.2% year-on-year and up 23.9% month-on-month.

In 2025, China's power battery and energy storage battery exports totaled 305.0 GWh, a 50.7% increase year-on-year, representing 17.9% of annual sales.
