Nio Inc (NYSE: NIO) has reached 200 battery swap stations in Shanghai, marking a milestone for the electric vehicle (EV) maker in its global headquarters city.
Shanghai's 200th Nio battery swap station went live on December 28. Located within a Sinopec gas station area, it was built through Nio's partnership with the Chinese oil giant, according to a statement released yesterday.
As of today, Nio operates 201 battery swap stations in Shanghai, making the eastern Chinese city home to the largest concentration of such facilities.
To date, Nio has provided about 10.4 million battery swap services in Shanghai.
Shanghai, one of China's megacities, has a population of about 25 million. On April 13 this year, Nio announced it had reached 100,000 vehicle deliveries in Shanghai.
The city ranks among those with the highest utilization rates for Nio's battery swap stations. The company's CFO Stanly Qu said at a forum last November that the vast majority of Nio's Shanghai stations provided over 100 services daily.
Beyond Sinopec, Nio had previously partnered with oil giants including China National Petroleum Corp (CNPC), China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC), and Shell to build battery swap stations. To date, Nio operates 356 collaborative stations built with them, it said.
As of today, Nio maintains 3,655 battery swap stations across China, with 1,008 located along highways.
So far this year, the company added 660 battery swap stations in China, slightly below last year's increase of 679 new stations.
Nio operates 4,849 charging stations in China, providing 27,642 charging piles. Its charging map integrates access to over 1.48 million third-party charging piles.
