Nio Inc (NYSE: NIO, HKG: 9866) has launched new limited-edition models for its ET5 electric sedan and ET5 Touring wagon to boost demand for the sedan lineup.
These two limited-edition models -- called the Far Sky Edition -- feature an exclusive purple exterior package and are limited to 555 units.
The ET5 limited edition starts at RMB 313,000 ($44,450) including a 100-kWh battery pack, representing a RMB 15,000 or 5.03 percent premium over the base model's RMB 298,000 price.
Under the BaaS (Battery as a Service) plan, its starting price is RMB 205,000 with a monthly battery rental fee of RMB 1,128.
The ET5 Touring wagon limited edition starts at RMB 316,000, which is RMB 18,000 or 6.04 percent higher than the entry-level model's RMB 298,000 price.
Its BaaS starting price is RMB 208,000 with a monthly battery rental fee of RMB 1,128.
This marks the first time the ET5 and ET5 Touring carry different prices within the same trim level, as the ET5 Touring variant comes standard with roof rack rails, a custom roof box, and roof rack crossbars.
The ET5 and ET5 Touring also offer two additional variants: the entry-level models both start at RMB 298,000, while the Champion Editions are priced at RMB 316,000.
The new limited edition models' body theme draws inspiration from the distant snow-capped mountains of Altay's winter landscape merging with the sky in Xinjiang, according to Nio. The cars also feature exclusive decals and 20-inch wheels.
Chinese customers purchasing the new limited-edition ET5 and ET5 Touring models before December 31 will receive benefits including 48 free battery swap service vouchers and five years of free NOP+ (Navigate on Pilot Plus) driver assistance features.
Deliveries of the new limited-edition models will commence later this month, Nio said.
This marks Nio's latest effort to boost its popular sedan lineup. From January to November, the ET5 Touring delivered 43,006 units, accounting for 15.48 percent of Nio Inc's total deliveries during the period, according to data compiled by CnEVPost.
The ET5 delivered 15,116 units in the first 11 months, accounting for 5.44 percent of the company's total deliveries during that period.
Nio launched the updated versions of the ET5 and ET5 Touring on May 25, maintaining their starting price of RMB 298,000 including the battery pack.
In the second half of this year, the company has released several limited editions for these two models, aiming to expand their visibility.
On July 4, the company introduced Champion Edition variants for the ET5, ET5 Touring, and EC6 coupe SUV, each priced higher than their standard counterparts.
On October 17, Nio launched a black-themed ET5 Touring inspired by the sci-fi film Tron: Ares, limited to 555 units.
Last week, a regulatory filing revealed Nio has registered new Clean Parks Edition variants for the ET5 and ET5 Touring.
Clean Parks is an environmental initiative announced by Nio during the ET5 launch at Nio Day 2021 on December 18, 2021.
