BYD's (HKG: 1211, OTCMKTS: BYDDY) Dolphin compact electric hatchback has achieved cumulative sales of one million units, becoming the third model in the company's Ocean lineup to reach this milestone after the Song Plus and Seagull.
BYD Ocean series sales chief Zhang Zhuo shared the milestone on Weibo yesterday, noting the Dolphin is China's fastest A0-segment sedan to reach one million units sold.
The Dolphin was launched in China on August 29, 2021, as the first model built on BYD's e-platform 3.0.
It also ranks among BYD's most affordable models, currently starting at RMB 99,800 ($14,120) in China.
The Dolphin features a compact body measuring 4,280 mm in length, 1,770 mm in width, and 1,570 mm in height, appealing to urban consumers.
It is equipped with either a 45.12 kWh or 60.48 kWh battery pack, delivering a CLTC range of 410-520 kilometers.
The model sold 30,971 units in November, contributing 6.45 percent to BYD's monthly sales of 480,186 units, according to data compiled by CnEVPost.
From January to November, the Dolphin sold 214,895 units, accounting for 5.14 percent of BYD's total sales during the same period.
The Dolphin is also a global model for BYD, having launched in multiple overseas markets.
BYD's vehicle lineup features the Ocean series and Dynasty series. The former primarily uses names inspired by marine life and vessels, while the latter draws inspiration from ancient Chinese dynasties.
The Song Plus SUV (sport utility vehicle) reached one million units sold in July 2024, becoming the first Ocean series model to achieve this milestone.
Notably, BYD is discontinuing the Song Plus, with the SUV to be replaced by the Sealion 06.
In July this year, the BYD Seagull hatchback reached one million units sold, becoming the second Ocean series model to hit this milestone.
