BYD (HKG: 1211) recorded its highest new energy vehicle (NEV) sales of this year last month, though still below the same period last year.
The Chinese NEV giant sold 441,706 vehicles in October, down 12.13 percent year-on-year --marking its second consecutive monthly year-on-year decline -- but up 11.47 percent from September, according to data it released today on Weibo.
BYD's NEVs include both passenger and commercial vehicles. Passenger NEVs recorded 436,856 units sold in October, down 12.72 percent year-on-year, though up 11.14 percent from September.
Commercial NEVs sold 4,850 units in October, surging 127.59 percent year-on-year and rising 51.09 percent from September.
Its October sales of battery electric vehicles (BEVs) totaled 222,559 units, marking a 17.37 percent year-on-year increase and an 8.54 percent rise from September.
Sales of plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) came in at 214,297 units, reflecting a 31.07 percent year-on-year decline -- the seventh consecutive month of year-on-year contraction -- despite a 13.98 percent increase from September.
The company sold 83,904 NEVs overseas in October, up 168.99 percent year-on-year and up 17.75 percent month-on-month.
The BYD group currently operates brands including BYD, Fang Cheng Bao, Denza, and Yangwang.
BYD brand passenger vehicles, including the Dynasty and Ocean series, sold 395,015 units in October -- a 17.85 percent year-on-year decrease but a 12.22 percent increase from September.
Fang Cheng Bao achieved record sales of 31,052 units in October, surging 415.30 percent year-on-year and 28.73 percent month-on-month.
Th surge was primarily driven by the new Tai 7 model, which was launched on September 9 and sold 20,024 units in October.
Denza sold 10,135 units in October, down 5.99 percent year-on-year and down 18.31 percent month-on-month.
Yangwang sold 654 units in October, up 131.91 percent year-on-year but down 13.72 percent from September.
Beyond being China's largest NEV maker, BYD is also the country's second-largest power battery producer.
BYD's installed capacity of power batteries and energy storage batteries in October reached about 27.362 GWh, marking a 30.18 percent year-on-year increase and a 17.94 percent rise from September.
January-October performance
From January to October, BYD sold 3,701,852 units, marking a 13.88 percent year-on-year increase.
Its passenger NEVs sold 3,655,718 units during this period, up 12.94 percent year-on-year.
Commercial NEVs sold 46,134 units, up 239.10 percent year-on-year.
Passenger BEVs sold 1,828,462 units from January to October, marking a 34.53 percent year-on-year increase.
Passenger PHEVs totaled 1,827,256 units, down 2.69 percent year-on-year.
Fang Cheng Bao sold 146,364 units from January to October, a 301.56 percent increase year-on-year.
Denza sold 125,740 units during the same period, up 24.53 percent year-on-year.
Yangwang sold 3,159 units from January to October, down 53.82 percent year-on-year.
BYD sold 780,976 vehicles overseas from January to October, marking a 137.33 percent year-on-year increase.
Its installed capacity of power batteries and energy storage batteries reached about 230.613 GWh during the same period, reflecting a 55.05 percent year-on-year growth.
