BYD (HKG: 1211, OTCMKTS: BYDDY) has reached the 100,000th production milestone for its Sealion 06 SUV, which is replacing the Song Plus within the Ocean series lineup.

Zhang Zhuo, head of sales for the Ocean series at the new energy vehicle (NEV) maker, shared the milestone on Weibo today, highlighting that this achievement came just 100 days after the Sealion 06's launch.

This is BYD's fastest model to reach the 100,000-unit production milestone, with one sold every 1.5 minutes on average, Zhang said.

BYD launched the Sealion 06 in China on July 24, offering both the hybrid Sealion 06 DM-i and the all-electric Sealion 06 EV.

The Sealion 06 DM-i comes in three variants, currently priced starting at RMB 139,800 ($19,660), RMB 146,800, and RMB 156,800.

The Sealion 06 EV also comes in three variants, starting at RMB 143,800, RMB 153,800, and RMB 163,800.

The Sealion 06 measures 4,810 mm in length, 1,920 mm in width, and 1,675 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,820 mm.

These dimensions slightly exceed those of the five-seat Model Y. The Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA) SUV measures 4,797 mm in length, 1,920 mm in width, and 1,624 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,890 mm.

Earlier this month, discussions emerged on Chinese social media regarding the impending discontinuation of the BYD Song Plus. BYD subsequently confirmed these rumors, saying that the Sealion 06 serves as the successor to the Song Plus.

BYD's vehicle lineup includes the Dynasty series and Ocean series. Models in the Dynasty series are named after ancient Chinese dynasties, while the Ocean series primarily draws inspiration from marine life and naval vessels.

The Song Plus -- including the Song Plus EV and Song Plus DM-I -- remains the only Ocean series model bearing an ancient Chinese dynasty name. This stems from BYD's strategy to enrich its product portfolio during the Ocean series' initial launch several years ago.

The Dynasty series Song family includes the Song L EV, Song L DM-i, and Song Pro DM-i.

As the Sealion 06 gradually replaces the Song Plus, sales of Sealion family models have surged significantly, while Song family sales have declined markedly.

The Sealion family sold 54,065 units in September, becoming BYD's second-highest selling model for the first time, surpassing the Seal family, according to data compiled by CnEVPost.

This represents a 363.56 percent year-on-year increase and a 1.48 percent rise from August. The family's first model, the Sealion 07 EV, was launched on May 10, 2024.

Song family models sold 42,178 units in September, down 52.68 percent year-on-year and 2.34 percent month-on-month.
