Chinese electric vehicle (EV) maker Avatr Technology, jointly backed by Changan Automobile (SHE: 000625), CATL (HKG: 3750), and Huawei, has rolled out an updated version of its Avatr 12 sedan equipped with four LiDAR sensors.
Avatr officially launched the model at an event today, naming it the Avatr 12 4-LiDAR Edition to replace the 2025 Avatr 12 released in May.
The model starts at RMB 269,900 ($38,020), matching the previously available Avatr 12. However, Avatr is offering a limited-time RMB 10,000 discount, lowering the effective starting price to RMB 259,900.
It features four LiDAR sensors -- three long-range LiDAR units and one high-precision solid-state LiDAR -- enabling 360-degree perception coverage with centimeter-level accuracy.
The Avatr 12 4-LiDAR Edition offers two extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) variants and four battery electric vehicle (BEV) variants.
The two EREV variants start at RMB 269,900 and RMB 289,900, respectively. The four BEV variants start at RMB 289,900, RMB 319,900, RMB 369,900, and RMB 429,900.
The five-seat mid-to-large-size sedan measures 5,020 mm in length, 1,999 mm in width, and 1,460 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,020 mm -- unchanged from its predecessor.
Both EREV variants feature rear-wheel drive with a single motor delivering 231 kW (310 hp) peak power and 333 Nm peak torque, accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.8 seconds.
Both are equipped with CATL's 52.01-kWh Freevoy Super Hybrid Battery, delivering a CLTC battery range of 356 kilometers.
With a full tank of fuel and fully charged battery, both EREV variants achieve a CLTC range of 1,270 kilometers.
The four BEV variants of the Avatr 12 4-LiDAR Edition are equipped with a 94.53 kWh ternary lithium battery, delivering a CLTC range of 705 to 755 kilometers.
The entry-level BEV variant is a single-motor rear-wheel-drive model with a peak motor power of 237 kW and peak torque of 396 Nm, accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.1 seconds.
The other three variants are dual-motor configurations, featuring an additional front motor with 165 kW peak power, accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.8 seconds.
The Avatr 12 was initially launched on November 10, 2023, and received a 2024 model year update last March.
On May 7 this year, Avatr launched the previous update the Avatr 12.
