- Avatr starts offering EREV variants of the Avatr 12 at a starting price of RMB 269,900 ($37,360).
- A recent video has raised questions about the drag coefficient of the Avatr 12.

Avatr Technology, an electric vehicle (EV) maker backed by Changan Automobile, CATL, and Huawei, has launched the updated Avatr 12 just as the sedan's drag coefficient is being questioned.
Avatr officially rolled out the 2025 Avatr 12 at a launch event tonight, with a starting price of RMB 269,900 ($37,360), higher than its predecessor's RMB 265,800.
Specifically, the updated Avatr 12 comes in two extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) variants, and four battery electric vehicle (BEV) variants.
It starts at RMB 269,900 and RMB 289,900 for the two EREV variants and RMB 289,900, RMB 319,900, RMB 369,900 and RMB 429,900 for the 4 BEV variants.
Until May 31, Avatr is offering a limited-time discount of RMB 10,000 on all variants of the updated Avatr 12.
As a comparison, the 2024 Avatr 12, which was launched in March last year, came with only four BEV options starting at RMB 265,800, RMB 300,800, RMB 340,800, and RMB 400,800 respectively.
The updated Avatr 12 becomes the third Avatr model to offer both BEV and EREV options after the Avatr 07 and the updated Avatr 11 SUVs (sport utility vehicles).
The five-seater mid-to-large-size sedan has length, width and height of 5,020 mm, 1,999 mm and 1,460 mm respectively, and a wheelbase of 3,020 mm, the same as its predecessor.
The two EREV variants of the updated Avatr 12 are both single-motor rear-wheel drive models with a peak motor power of 231 kW and peak torque of 367 Nm, which can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.7 seconds.
They are all powered by the Freevoy Battery from CATL with a capacity of 39.05 kWh and have a CLTC battery range of 245 kilometers.
Launched on October 24, 2024, the Freevoy battery is a hybrid-specific battery pack.
At full fuel and full charge, both EREV variants of the Avatr 12 have a CLTC range of 1,155 kilometers.
All four BEV variants of the updated Avatr 12 are powered by a Li-ion ternary battery pack with a capacity of 94.53 kWh and a CLTC range of 705 km to 755 km.
The entry-level variant of the Avatr 12 BEV is a single-motor rear-wheel drive model with a peak motor power of 237 kW and peak torque of 396 Nm, which allows it to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.1 seconds.
The other three variants are all dual-motor models with an additional front motor that produces 165 kW of peak power and 291 Nm of peak torque and can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.8 seconds.
The Avatr 12 was initially launched on November 10, 2023, and received a 2024 model year update in March last year.
Earlier this week, a car blogger posted a video that raised doubts about the Avatr 12's drag coefficient.
The video was shared on the X platform and retweeted by Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA) and owner of the X social network platform.
Last night, Avatr said on Weibo that Elon Musk shared inaccurate information and invited him to witness a wind tunnel test of the Avatr 12.
