BYD (HKG: 1211, OTCMKTS: BYDDY) has rolled out the Sealion 06 SUV (sport utility vehicle), the latest addition to its Ocean lineup, which has now surpassed cumulative sales of 5.2 million units.
The Chinese new energy vehicle (NEV) maker officially launched the SUV at an event today, offering the hybrid Sealion 06 DM-i and the all-electric Sealion 06 EV, similar to many other models in BYD's lineup.
The Sealion 06 DM-i comes in three variants, with starting prices of RMB 139,800 ($19,540), RMB 146,800, and RMB 156,800.
The Sealion 06 EV also comes in three variants, with starting prices of RMB 143,800, RMB 153,800, and RMB 163,800.
The Sealion 06 measures 4,810 mm in length, 1,920 mm in width, and 1,675 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,820 mm.
These dimensions are slightly larger than those of the Sealion 05 SUV, which was launched in March. The Sealion 05 has a length, width, and height of 4,520 mm, 1,860 mm, and 1,630 mm, respectively, with a wheelbase of 2,720 mm.
The Sealion 06 DM-i is equipped with BYD's fifth-generation DM (dual mode) hybrid technology, which was released in May 2024 and offers lower fuel consumption.
The Sealion 06 EV is based on BYD's e-Platform 3.0 Evo platform, which was also released in May 2024 and offers higher integration.
The Sealion 06 DM-i is equipped with a 1.5 L engine with a maximum power of 74 kW. It also has a single motor with a peak power of 160 kW.
The plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) model is equipped with battery packs with capacities of 18.3 kWh or 26.6 kWh, with battery ranges of 121 km or 170 km.
The Sealion 06 EV offers single-motor and dual-motor options. The single-motor version features a motor with peak power of either 170 kW or 180 kW. The dual-motor version is equipped with front and rear motors with maximum power of 110 kW and 180 kW, respectively.
These battery electric vehicle (BEV) variants are equipped with battery packs of 65.28 kWh or 78.72 kWh, offering ranges of 520 km, 550 km, or 605 km.
The Sealion 06 further expands BYD's Sealion family, which also includes the Sealion 07 EV, Sealion 07 DM-i, Sealion 05 DM-i, and Sealion 05 EV, with a starting price range of RMB 102,800 to RMB 239,800.
The Sealion family is one of BYD's best-selling models, with a record 34,757 units sold in June, contributing 9.08 percent to BYD Group's NEV sales of 382,585 units, according to data compiled by CnEVPost.
In the first half of the year, the Sealion family sold 134,070 vehicles. The first model in the family, the Sealion 07 EV, was launched on May 10, 2024.
The strong sales growth of the Sealion family is expected to become a new growth engine for BYD's Ocean lineup, which sold 1,030,820 vehicles in the first half of the year, representing a year-on-year increase of 38.98 percent.
To date, the Ocean lineup has accumulated total sales exceeding 5.2 million units, with the Song Plus and Seagull each surpassing 1 million units in sales.
Another major series under the BYD brand, the Dynasty series, sold 920,323 vehicles in the first half of the year, a year-on-year increase of 17.70 percent.
