BYD Fang Cheng Bao says Tai 7 hybrid SUV to be launched in Q4

BYD (HKG: 1211, OTCMKTS: BYDDY) sub-brand Fang Cheng Bao will launch the Tai 7 hybrid SUV (sport utility vehicle) in the fourth quarter, marking the second model in its Tai series following the Tai 3.

Fang Cheng Bao announced the plan during a Q&A post today and shared additional specifications about the model.

The Tai 7 is Fang Cheng Bao's first hybrid SUV to adopt a unibody chassis design and boasts the largest interior space among its current products, according to the brand.

Notably, the Tai 3 also features a unibody design, but it is a pure electric SUV.

The Tai 7 measures 4,999 mm in length, 1,995 mm in width, and 1,865 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,920 mm.

The model will embody Fang Cheng Bao's sporty DNA and cater to a wider range of urban driving needs, the brand said.

The Tai 7 is equipped with BYD's God's Eye smart driving system and will be available in both LiDAR-equipped and non-LiDAR versions.

The all-wheel-drive long-range version is equipped with a 35.6-kWh battery pack, offering a CLTC battery range of up to 180 kilometers.

The model also offers a two-wheel-drive standard-range version with a 26.6-kWh battery pack, providing a CLTC battery range of 135 kilometers.

When fully fueled and charged, the Tai 7 can achieve a combined range exceeding 1,300 kilometers.

In the short term, Fang Cheng Bao will not launch a pure electric version of the Tai 7, it said.

BYD officially launched the Fang Cheng Bao brand on August 16, 2023. The brand currently offers the Bao series, including the Bao 5 and Bao 8 hybrid off-road SUVs, as well as the Tai 3 compact family SUV in the Tai series.

On December 10, 2024, Fang Cheng Bao unveiled the Tai series product line, becoming its second major product line after the Bao series.

The Bao series focuses on the off-road vehicle market, while the Tai series targets the family car market.

Fang Cheng Bao began teasing the Tai 7 at the beginning of last month, with the model entering the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology's regulatory filing catalog on June 20.

On July 16, the higher-spec Tai 7 versions were added to the MIIT catalog.

Fang Cheng Bao sold a record 18,903 vehicles in June, a year-on-year increase of 605.34 percent and a month-on-month increase of 50.12 percent, according to data compiled by CnEVPost.

In the first half of this year, the BYD sub-brand sold 60,746 vehicles, marking a year-on-year increase of 232.25 percent.
