Stelato, a new brand jointly developed by Huawei and Beijing Automotive Group (BAIC Group), has begun previewing the S9T wagon, the second model under the new brand.

Huawei's HIMA (Harmony Intelligent Mobility Alliance) business shared the first official images of the Stelato S9T on its social media accounts today, stating that the wagon will feature Stelato's first-ever green exterior and new taillights.

Stelato is one of five automotive brands under the HIMA umbrella, with the other four being Aito from Seres, Luxeed from Chery, Maextro from Anhui Jianghuai Automobile Group (JAC), and Shangjie from SAIC.

Stelato's sole model to date is the Stelato S9, which was launched on August 6, 2024, targeting the premium sedan market with a starting price of RMB 309,800 ($43,220).

As a mid-to-large-size executive sedan, the Stelato S9 measures 5,160 mm in length, 1,987 mm in width, and 1,486 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,050 mm.

The Stelato S9T appears to be a wagon variant of the Stelato S9 and will become the latest option in this category for the Chinese market.

In China, wagon-type vehicles are a niche market, as local consumers prefer conventional sedans or SUVs (sport utility vehicles).

With the growing popularity of such models from automakers including Zeekr (NYSE: ZK) and Nio (NYSE: NIO) in recent years, more automakers have joined the ranks of those launching such models.

In Nio's case, its ET5 Touring wagon delivered 5,103 units in June, marking the first month since deliveries began in June 2023 that it surpassed the ES6 SUV in monthly deliveries, according to data compiled by CnEVPost.

HIMA did not mention today when the Stelato S9T will be launched, but Huawei's executive director and chairman of the consumer business group, Richard Yu, said at an event on July 8 that the Stelato wagon will be released this fall.

The vehicle has a very spacious interior and excellent handling, making it suitable for both family use and camping, Yu said at the time.

He also hinted that the station wagon will offer both battery electric vehicle (BEV) and extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) variants, similar to the Stelato S9, noting that its pure electric range and total range when fully fueled and charged are both very long.
