Nio (NYSE: NIO) sub-brand Onvo continues to warm up for the L90, as the large SUV (sport utility vehicle) is set to begin pre-sales this Thursday.
Onvo president Shen Fei shared a video on Weibo today showing the L90 automatically completing self-inspections of vehicle functions before leaving the factory.
Hundreds of Onvo L90s can automatically open and close their doors and inspect themselves, Shen wrote on Weibo, calling it a "science fiction movie" from Nio's smart factory.
Shen explained that this is not visual effects, but the result of Nio's original research and development of the Tiantan new vehicle AI vehicle body self-inspection system and the SkyOS vehicle operating system.
The vehicles can automatically inspect over 1,000 functions in three minutes, with the entire process completed by AI, covering and identifying areas that traditional manual inspections struggle to reach, according to Shen.
"These Onvo L90s, rigorously inspected by the 'AI inspector,' are rapidly arriving at stores nationwide. We invite you to visit the stores on July 10 for an experience," Shen wrote.
Onvo announced last week that its flagship three-row L90 SUV will begin pre-sales on July 10, with display vehicles available at stores at that time.
The Nio sub-brand said today that the first batch of L90 display vehicles will be available at Onvo stores starting at 10 am Beijing Time on July 10, allowing visitors to experience the model.
The L90 made its official debut on the first day of the 2025 Shanghai auto show on April 23, showcasing its spacious frunk and other storage compartments.
Yesterday, Nio founder, chairman, and CEO William Li said during a tour of Nio's factory in Hefei, Anhui province, with a group of entrepreneurs that the Onvo L90 will start at under RMB 300,000 ($41,830).
Nio's third factory in Hefei, or F3 factory, will officially begin production in September, according to Li.
The L90 is a highly anticipated model for Onvo, following the disappointing sales performance of the L60, the first model under the Nio sub-brand.
The L60, a mid-size five-seat SUV launched on September 19, 2024, performed poorly, leading to the replacement of Onvo's president from Alan Ai to Shen in April.
In addition to the L90, Onvo will launch the L80 in the fourth quarter, with a previous regulatory filing indicating that the L80 will be a five-seat variant of the L90.
Nio aims for its three Onvo models to achieve monthly sales of 25,000 units in the fourth quarter, the company's management said during an earnings call on June 3.
