- Xiaomi EV's phase 2 plant is hiring massively to prepare for mass production.
- The influx of a large number of YU7 orders has left Xiaomi EV facing unprecedented factory capacity constraints.

Xiaomi EV's phase 2 plant is on a hiring spree to prepare for mass production, local media outlet Sina Tech reported today, citing one of Xiaomi's human resources service providers.
The factory is hiring for positions including general workers, operators, and truck drivers, with a preferred age range of 18-38, according to the report.
Employees are required to work in two shifts, with an 11-hour workday and a daily wage of RMB 230 ($32), the report said.
Xiaomi officially launched the YU7 on June 26, its first electric SUV (sport utility vehicle), positioning it as a competitor to Tesla's (NASDAQ: TSLA) Model Y.
The YU7 received 200,000 firm orders within the first three minutes of sales and over 240,000 locked-in orders within 18 hours, Xiaomi previously announced.
The surge in orders has left Xiaomi EV facing unprecedented factory capacity constraints.
Customers who order the YU7 now will need to wait 38-58 weeks for delivery, according to information on Xiaomi EV's mobile app.
Xiaomi EV's currently operational factory is the phase 1 project in Yizhuang, southeast of Beijing, with an annual production capacity of 150,000 units.
Starting in June 2024, the phase 1 factory began a two-shift production system to meet demand for its first model, the SU7 series.
Last month, Xiaomi EV delivered over 25,000 vehicles, marking the ninth consecutive month with monthly deliveries exceeding 20,000 units.
Xiaomi has already produced some YU7 SUV vehicles and is allowing consumers to lock in orders directly, with delivery expected within 1-5 weeks.
The company has not previously mentioned when deliveries of customized YU7 models will begin, though its mobile app indicates this will occur in August.
This delivery schedule may be related to the progress of the second phase of the Xiaomi EV factory project. Some local media reports previously said that the second phase would be completed by mid-June and officially commence production in July-August.
Additionally, last month, a subsidiary of Xiaomi secured a new plot of land in Beijing, which is widely seen as intended for the third phase of the Xiaomi EV factory.
