BYD (HKG: 1211, OTCMKTS: BYDDY) has deployed a new car carrier, the BYD Xi'an, with another vessel, the BYD Changsha, set to enter service shortly.

The BYD Xi'an was delivered to BYD on June 21 in Yizheng, Jiangsu province, eastern China, and commenced its maiden voyage, the new energy vehicle (NEV) maker announced on Saturday.

The cargo ship is BYD's fifth and is a sister ship to the BYD Shenzhen, both featuring 9,200 standard vehicle loading spaces, making them among the largest LNG dual-fuel car carriers currently in operation globally.

The BYD Xi'an is named after Xi'an in Shaanxi province, northwest China, which houses one of BYD's largest automobile manufacturing bases.

The ship measures 219.9 meters in length, 37.7 meters in beam, has a service speed of 19 knots, and features 16 decks.

BYD's fleet already includes four operational car carriers: BYD Explorer No. 1, BYD Hefei, BYD Changzhou, and BYD Shenzhen, with BYD Shenzhen being the only one with 9,200 standard loading spaces.

These vessels have improved BYD's delivery efficiency in overseas markets, reduced logistics costs, and shortened transportation cycles, the company said.

The addition of the new vessel will further expand BYD's fleet size and accelerate the company's global expansion, it said.

Separately, Xiong Tianbo, head of BYD's sub-brand Fang Cheng Bao, said on Weibo yesterday that the BYD Changsha -- BYD's sixth car carrier -- will make its maiden voyage on June 24.

Both the BYD Xi'an and BYD Changsha have a capacity of 9,200 vehicles and entered the sea trial phase earlier this month.

BYD has seen strong sales growth in recent years, quickly becoming the world's largest NEV maker.

The company's 2025 sales target is 5.5 million vehicles, including over 800,000 from overseas markets, according to chairman and president Wang Chuanfu on March 25.
