Gotion High-tech (SHE: 002074) will supply its latest 46-series cylindrical battery cells to Chinese electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) developer Ehang (NASDAQ: EH), marking the battery giant's latest advancement in the eVTOL sector.
The two companies recently entered into a strategic partnership focused on upgrading the power system of Ehang's flagship EH216 series eVTOL, according to their press releases today.
Gotion will provide Ehang's EH216 series eVTOL with a customized power battery system solution, with the core being Gotion's newly developed 46-series high-energy-density, high-power battery cells.
The EH216 series aircraft equipped with the new batteries will achieve significant performance improvements, including longer range, stronger power output, and better safety performance, according to their press releases.
This upgrade will enhance the operational efficiency of the EH216 series in diverse operational scenarios, supporting the commercialization of the low-altitude economy, the two companies said.
The two parties also plan to expand their cooperation to more of Ehang's future eVTOL products.

The latest collaboration is an upgrade to a framework agreement signed in December 2023, when the two parties planned to jointly develop battery cells, battery packs, energy storage systems, and charging infrastructure for Ehang's eVTOL products.
"Gotion's advanced 46-series cylindrical battery cell technology will unlock higher performance boundaries for the EH216 series," said Feng Shuai, Ehang's senior vice president.
Ehang is one of China's earliest eVTOL makers. The company announced on February 2, 2024, that the official guidance price for the EH216-S in China is RMB 2.39 million ($330,000).
The aircraft is powered by a battery pack, with a maximum flight speed of 130 kilometers per hour and a maximum flight duration of 25 minutes.
In November last year, the Ehang EH216-S equipped with solid-state batteries successfully completed a single uninterrupted flight test, lasting 48 minutes and 10 seconds, as part of its exploration into the use of next-generation batteries.
Gotion is one of the world's largest manufacturers of power batteries, with a power battery installation volume of 10.6 GWh from January to April, according to data released by South Korean market research firm SNE Research on June 4.
The company held a 3.4 percent global market share in the first four months, ranking sixth, according to SNE Research.
