The BYD Shenzhen car carrier has been commissioned and set sail, and is the latest addition to BYD's (HKG: 1211, OTCMKTS: BYDDY) fleet.

The car carrier was officially delivered to BYD today in Yizheng, Jiangsu province in eastern China, marking a new development in the company's global sales and supply chain for its new energy vehicles (NEVs), BYD said.

BYD Shenzhen, the fourth car carrier operated by BYD, was built by a shipyard owned by China Merchants Group, according to Shenzhen-based BYD.

The vessel has an overall length of 219.9 meters, a beam of 37.7 meters, a service speed of 19 knots and a total of 16 decks.

With 9,200 standard loading spaces, it is the world's largest car carrier that has been put into operation in terms of loading capacity.

The ship adopts the latest LNG dual-fuel clean power technology and uses energy-saving devices, drag-reducing anti-fouling paints and other technical solutions, making it a green, intelligent, environmentally friendly and efficient car carrier, BYD said.

In the first quarter of this year, BYD's car carriers have shipped more than 25,000 NEVs to various parts of the world, according to the company.

As of today, BYD's NEVs have a footprint in more than 100 countries and regions and 400 cities around the world.

The commissioning of BYD Shenzhen will further enhance BYD's delivery capacity to key global markets, shorten transportation cycles and reduce logistics costs, it said.

It will also help BYD's NEVs reach global customers faster and safer, it said.

BYD will continue to increase its investment in new energy logistics and contribute Chinese solutions to the global goal of "carbon neutrality," the company said.

On January 15, the BYD Shenzhen car carrier completed its un-docking in Yangzhou, Jiangsu province, meaning that the vessel had completed its construction and was ready to start its career at sea.

After BYD Shenzhen, BYD Changsha and BYD Xi'an are not far from being put into operation.

BYD Changsha is the fifth in BYD's fleet and its second car carrier with a capacity of 9,200 vehicles.

BYD Xi'an, BYD's sixth car carrier, was officially launched on April 2.

BYD Explorer No. 1 is the first vessel in BYD's fleet with a capacity of 7,000 vehicles. The vessel, which entered service in January 2024, was chartered to BYD by another shipowner.

BYD Hefei is the first car carrier with BYD as a shipowner and the first to be named after the city where one of its vehicle production bases is located, with a capacity of 7,000 vehicles.

BYD Hefei completed construction at the end of September 2024 and began its maiden voyage on January 7 of this year, sailing to Europe with nearly 5,000 NEVs.

BYD Changzhou, launched in October 2024, is the second BYD vessel named after a vehicle production site after BYD Hefei.

The 7,000-vehicle-capable BYD Changzhou went into service in December 2024, with its maiden voyage carrying 5,000 NEVs to Europe.

BYD's car sales target for 2025 is 5.5 million units, including more than 800,000 in overseas markets, according to local media.
