BYD (HKG: 1211, OTCMKTS: BYDDY) has made a regulatory filing for the hybrid Seal 06 wagon, which is expected to be the latest addition to its Seal family.
China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) yesterday released the latest catalog of models that are about to be allowed for sale for public comment, and BYD's Seal 06 wagon was included.
The public can submit feedback between March 20-26. Inclusion in the catalog is the last major regulatory procedure for a model to be allowed for sale in China.
The Seal 06 wagon included in the catalog comes in two versions, both of which are plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) models, and will be produced at BYD's multiple production bases in Changsha, Hunan; Hefei, Anhui; Jinan, Shandong; Zhengzhou, Henan; and Shenzhen, Guangdong.
The wagon measures 4,850 mm long, 1,890 mm wide and 1,505 mm high, with a wheelbase of 2,790 mm.
These dimensions are slightly larger than those of the Seal 06 DM-i hybrid sedan, which measures 4,830 mm long, 1,875 mm wide and 1,495 mm high, with a wheelbase of 2,790 mm.
The two versions of the Seal 06 wagon weigh 1,700 kg and 1,800 kg respectively, and both support a top speed of 180 km/h.
The model is powered by a 1,498 ml engine with a maximum power of 74 kW. It has a single motor with a peak power of 120 kW and 160 kW options.
The Seal 06 wagon appears to be a new model built by BYD based on the Seal 06 DM-i sedan, targeting customers with higher demand for load capacity.
The Seal 06 DM-i was launched on May 28, 2024, and is one of the first two models to feature BYD's fifth-generation DM technology.
The Seal 06 DM-i is currently available in five versions, with starting prices of RMB 99,800 ($13,800), RMB 109,800, RMB 119,800, RMB 129,800, and RMB 139,800.
Last October, BYD launched the Seal 06 GT hatchback, which is a production version of the Ocean-M concept car.
The Seal 06 GT is based on BYD's pure electric platform e-Platform 3.0 Evo and is available in four variants, with current starting prices of RMB 136,800, RMB 146,800, RMB 162,800, and RMB 186,800.
In addition to the Seal 06 series, the Seal family also includes the Seal EV electric sedan, the Seal 07 DM-i hybrid sedan, and the Seal 05 DM-i hybrid sedan.
In the January-February period, the Seal family sold 62,013 vehicles, contributing 9.95 percent of BYD's new energy vehicle (NEV) sales for the same period, according to data compiled by CnEVPost.
