Xpeng (NYSE: XPEV) has entered the Indonesian market and plans to start local production in the Southeast Asian country as it continues to push forward with its efforts to expand overseas.

The company recently started pre-sales for the G6 SUV (sport utility vehicle), and X9 MPV (multi-purpose vehicle) in Indonesia, although pricing information was not released, according to a statement today.

It has entered into a partnership with Indonesian dealer Eral (Erajaya Active Lifestyle), and right-hand drive versions of the G6 and X9 will be available locally later this year, according to the company.

Xpeng announced that it will begin localized production in Indonesia in the second half of 2025, making the country the first overseas market to have an Xpeng factory.

As the most populous country in Southeast Asia and the largest automotive market, Indonesia has huge potential, Xpeng said.

Sales of new energy vehicles (NEVs) in Indonesia increased by more than 43,000 units in 2024, up 150 percent year-on-year, the company said, citing data from the Association of Indonesia Automotive Industries.

In 2025, Indonesia plans to produce 400,000 EVs, raising to 1 million by 2035, according to the statement from Xpeng.

In addition, Indonesia has introduced a number of policies to support the development of the NEV industry, creating vast market opportunities for Chinese NEV makers companies, including Xpeng, it said.

Xpeng sees Indonesia and the Asia-Pacific region as the next growth engine, and is committed to bringing more leading-edge smart mobility solutions to local consumers through the introduction of smart EV technologies, it said.

With the opening of overseas localized production, Xpeng will be one of the first brands among the new Chinese car-making forces to begin overseas localized production.

This will help the company respond quickly to local market demand and provide more efficient, customized solutions for Indonesia and other key markets, Xpeng said.

The Xpeng G6 was initially launched on June 29, 2023 in China. The company launched the 2025 G6 last week, offering three versions with starting prices of RMB 176,800 ($24,430), RMB 186,800 and RMB 198,800, respectively.

The updated G6 is a model developed for the global market and is offered in left- and right-hand drive versions, Xpeng said previously.

The X9 is Xpeng's first MPV launched on January 1, 2024.

Xpeng plans to expand its international presence to more than 60 countries and regions this year and achieve 50 percent of its sales from overseas markets over the next 10 years, it previously said.

Xpeng currently operates in more than 30 international markets.
