Eve Energy has started production at its Malaysian plant, marking a milestone for the Chinese lithium battery maker in overseas markets.

The plant saw its first battery unit roll off the assembly line on February 16, marking the start of production operations at Eve Energy's first overseas factory, according to an announcement today.

The Malaysian plant is the first step in Eve Energy's expansion in overseas markets and is a key step in the company's efforts to connect with the world, it said.

The production start-up of the Malaysian plant will enhance Eve Energy's overseas delivery capabilities and help expand the company's presence in international markets such as Southeast Asia, Europe and North America, it said.

Eve Energy announced on October 20, 2022 that its subsidiary Eve Energy Malaysia Sdn Bhd planned to invest up to $422.3 million to build a cylindrical lithium battery manufacturing project in Malaysia.

The plant, which broke ground in August 2023, is located in Kulim District, Kedah, Malaysia.

In January last year, Eve Energy announced plans to set up an energy storage company in Malaysia and purchase a phase II plot for an energy storage plant.

In addition to Malaysia, Eve Energy announced in June 2023 that it planned to invest more than $1 billion to build an electric vehicle (EV) battery plant in Hungary to expand its presence in overseas markets.

The project is located in Debrecen, Hungary, and has a four-year construction period, according to the company's previous announcement.

Eve Energy is one of the largest battery makers in China, with 1.53 GWh of EV batteries installed in January, ranking 6th with a 3.95 percent share, according to data released earlier today by the China Automotive Battery Innovation Alliance (CABIA).
