Dongfeng Nissan, the Chinese joint venture of Japanese auto giant Nissan, has introduced DeepSeek's artificial intelligence (AI) models into its upcoming new model, the N7 electric sedan, in a rare move by a Japanese carmaker in China.

The Dongfeng Nissan N7 has integrated DeepSeek and is the first joint venture automaker to integrate the DeepSeek-R1 deep reasoning large model in vehicles, it announced today on its WeChat account.

Through the powerful data processing and self-learning capabilities of the DeepSeek-R1 large model, the N7 is able to accurately recognize user intent and provide a more natural and smooth human-computer interaction experience, according to Dongfeng Nissan.

In terms of voice control, navigation planning, and entertainment system recommendations, N7 can accurately understand user needs and provide personalized services, it said.

Dongfeng Nissan gave the N7 its global debut at the Guangzhou auto show last November, saying the model was the first pure electric sedan of its new energy technology architecture.

The automaker also announced at the time that it had teamed up with Chinese autonomous driving startup Momenta to create a high-level smart driving system that would give the N7 NOA (Navigate on Autopilot) capabilities on highways and city roads.

The N7 entered a regulatory catalog from China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) last month, and its filing showed that it measures 4,930 mm in length, 1,895 mm in width and 1,487 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,915 mm.

The car uses a TZ200XS3JD motor made by Dongfeng Motor with a maximum power of 200 kW.

Earlier today, Dongfeng Nissan announced on Weibo that it conducted performance tests on the N7 in -38°C cold conditions in Heihe, Heilongjiang province in northeastern China.

An official launch date for the model is yet to be determined.

As DeepSeek's latest open-source model, DeepSeek R1 outperforms OpenAI's o1 model, but costs less to train.

DeepSeek has quickly become a hot topic over the past month, as it gains widespread recognition for its AI capabilities.

Many automotive brands including (HKG: 1211, OTCMKTS: BYDDY), (NYSE: ZK), Dongfeng M-Hero, Smart, Leapmotor, IM Motors, and Arcfox have already announced the incorporation of DeepSeek's AI models in their cockpits.
