Lei made the comment when he retweeted a December all-electric sedan sales ranking from local automotive media outlet Dongchedi shared by Xiaomi EV vice president Li Xiaoshuang.

The ranking showed the Model 3 in fifth place with 21,046 retail sales in December, while the Xiaomi SU7 came in fourth with 25,815 units.

First place went to the Seagull -- 's (HKG: 1211, OTCMKTS: BYDDY) least expensive model -- at 48,754 units. Second place went to the Wuling Hongguang Mini EV at 37,747 units. The Wuling Binguo came in third with 30,757 units.

Xiaomi EV officially launched the SU7 -- its only current model -- on March 28, 2024, with deliveries starting in April 2024.

The sedan is offered in three versions -- Standard, Pro, and Max -- with starting prices of RMB 215,900 ($29,640), RMB 245,900, and RMB 299,900, respectively.

The Tesla Model 3 is also offered in three variants in China -- an entry-level rear-wheel drive version, a long-range all-wheel drive version, and an all-wheel drive performance version.

On January 10, Tesla increased the prices of all three variants of the Model 3 by RMB 3,600 alongside the launch of the facelifted Model Y. The three variants of the Model 3 are now priced at RMB 235,500, RMB 275,500 and RMB 339,500 respectively.

Notably, the Xiaomi SU7 surpassed Model 3 deliveries in China in the first month of deliveries, according to data compiled by CnEVPost.

Tesla produces the Model 3 and Model Y at its Shanghai plant for both local consumers and for export to overseas markets, leading to fluctuating local deliveries.

In the past nine months, monthly deliveries of the Xiaomi SU7 have exceeded Model 3 deliveries in China four times, according to CnEVPost's monitoring.

The facelifted Model Y is expected to bolster Tesla's sales in China, though the SUV faces more competitors, one of which is the Xiaomi YU7.

Xiaomi announced on December 9 that its second EV model has been named the Xiaomi YU7, and the SUV is expected to be launched in June or July 2025.
