BYD (HKG: 1211, OTCMKTS: BYDDY) has shared official images of two flagship models from its Dynasty lineup, ahead of their debut tomorrow.
The Chinese new energy vehicle (NEV) maker today shared two images each of the Han L sedan and Tang L SUV (sport utility vehicle) on Weibo, showing off their exteriors.
This is the first time that BYD has shared images of these two new models, and a design introduction event for them is scheduled for January 17, starting at 2:00 pm Beijing time.
BYD teased the Han L and Tang L on January 3, when it shared images that obscured most details of the exteriors.
On January 10, China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) released its latest catalog of models that would soon be allowed to be sold for public comment, and the BYD Han L and Tang L were included, bringing their core specs to light.
Their most intriguing specification is that some variants are powered by dual electric motors, one of which has a peak power of up to 580 kW.
Peak power of 580 kW from a single motor is rare. In the past few years, motors with peak power of 300 kW were not often seen.
The filing information shows that the Han L can sprint from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour in 2.7 seconds, while the Tang L is 3.9 seconds, which is comparable to many supercar models.
The Han sedan was initially launched in July 2020 and is BYD's first entry into the mid to high-end sedan market.
The Tang initially debuted at the 2014 Beijing auto show and began production in 2015.
Both models have received several updates and are currently the flagship models of BYD's Dynasty lineup. BYD's other main product line, the Ocean lineup, is named after marine life and ships.
In 2024, the Han family of models sold 258,452 units, an increase of 13.17 percent year-on-year, contributing 6.05 percent of BYD's annual sales, according to data compiled by CnEVPost.
The Tang family sold 153,365 units in 2024, up 11.80 percent year-on-year, contributing 3.59 percent of BYD's annual sales.
