- Svolt unveiled its Fengxing Short Blade Battery with a 6C charging multiplier, which it said can charge from 10 percent to 80 percent in just 8.5 minutes.
- It also unveiled its first battery built specifically for off-road models, already used in the Tank 500 Hi4-Z.
Svolt Energy, a battery maker that became independent from Great Wall Motor (HKG: 2333), has unveiled a new fast-charging power battery as local players push forward with innovations in the field.
Svolt unveiled the Fengxing Short Blade Battery at its 5th Battery Day event in Chengdu, Sichuan province yesterday, saying it has a 6C charging multiplier and an energy density of 185 Wh/kg.
The battery can be charged from 10 percent to 80 percent SOC (state of charge) in just 8.5 minutes, improving charging efficiency, the battery maker said.
The Fengxing is powered by Svolt's third-generation short blade cells, which use high-energy cathode and anode materials, according to the company.
In addition to a version that supports ultra-fast charging, Fengxing also has a long-life version with a 15-year, 600,000-kilometer lifespan and a cell cycle life of more than 5,000, Svolt said.
In the battery industry, C refers to the battery's charge multiplier, and 6C means that the battery can theoretically be fully charged in one-sixth of an hour -- 10 minutes.
The highest charging multiplier is 5C for batteries that are already being used in production vehicles, such as Li Auto's (NASDAQ: LI) Li Mega MPV (multi-purpose vehicle) and some of Zeekr's (NYSE: ZK) models.
Last June, local media outlet 36kr reported that CATL and BYD were working on faster 6C charging technology.
Svolt also unveiled yesterday its first battery built specifically for off-road vehicle models, capable of operating in temperatures ranging from -43°C to 60°C.
The battery has a pulse discharge power of 5C in extreme cold at -20°C, giving it great reliability and power in extreme climates, Svolt said.
It has a capacity of up to 59 kWh and supports 800V charging, and has been used in Great Wall Motor's Tank 500 Hi-4-Z, which was launched on January 1, according to Svolt.
The Tank 500 Hi4-Z is powered by a Li-ion ternary battery with a capacity of 59.05 kWh and a WLTC battery range of 201 kilometers, according to its specs sheet.
Svolt has also released new batteries for the commercial vehicle market, offering a fast-charging version and a long-life version.
The fast-charging version of the commercial vehicle battery has a capacity of 91.4 kWh and supports a 4C charging multiplier that can charge from 10 percent to 80 percent in 14 minutes.
The long-life version has a capacity of 95.7 kWh with 3C charging multiplier and comes with an 8-year or 1.5-million-kilometer warranty.
Svolt saw its one millionth battery pack roll off the production line at its Chengdu manufacturing facility yesterday.
In January-November, Svolt shipped 5.8 GWh to overseas customers, accounting for 27 percent of total shipments in the same period, according to the company.
In November, Svolt's battery shipments in China amounted to 2.34 GWh, placing it in fifth place with a 3.49 percent share, according to the China Automotive Battery Innovation Alliance (CABIA).
