Onvo, a sub-brand of Nio (NYSE: NIO), plans to increase the number of available batteries at swap stations before the upcoming Chinese New Year holiday period and to offer car owners free battery swap service on highways during the holiday travel rush.
Onvo will increase the number of batteries in battery swap stations available to the brand before the Chinese New Year, the brand's vice president, Xia Qinghua, announced today.
About 1,000 additional 60-kWh battery packs are expected to be added to battery swap stations, with battery reserves at swap stations on key highway segments prioritized, Xia said in a post on the Onvo App.
Meanwhile, between January 22 and February 12, all Onvo owners can enjoy unlimited free battery swap services and charging services at battery swap stations along highways, he said.
The upcoming Chinese New Year holiday will begin on January 28 and last until February 4. February 12 is the traditional Chinese Lantern Festival.
Onvo officially launched its first model, the L60, an electric SUV (sport utility vehicle) that is a competitor to the Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA) Model Y, on September 19, 2024, with deliveries beginning on September 28.
The Onvo L60 delivered 10,528 vehicles in December, the first time it has surpassed the 10,000 mark, up 107.16 percent from 5,082 in November.
By the end of December, the Onvo L60 had accumulated 20,761 deliveries, according to data compiled by CnEVPost.
The model is available in a standard-range version with a capacity of 60 kWh and a long range version with a capacity of 85 kWh, with initial deliveries dominated by the standard range version.
As with Nio's main branded models, the Onvo L60 supports battery swap.
On December 29, Nio announced that it had more than 2,900 battery swap stations in China and reached its goal of having 1,000 stations by the end of 2024 available for Onvo.
As of January 5, the number of battery swap stations available for Onvo reached 1,062, according to the latest data.
Nio currently has 3,005 battery swap stations in China, of which 949 are located along highways, according to figures monitored by CnEVPost.
