China's retail sales of new energy vehicles (NEVs) at the beginning of this month were up from November, albeit at a slow pace.

In the December 1-8 period, China's passenger NEV retail sales amounted to 255,000 units, up 72 percent from the same period last year and up 3 percent from the same period last month, according to data released today by the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA).

So far this year, cumulative retail sales of passenger NEVs in China totaled 9.85 million units, up 42 percent year-on-year.

Wholesale sales of China's passenger NEVs from December 1-8 were 280,000 units, up 78 percent from the same period last year and flat from the same period last month, according to the CPCA.

Cumulative wholesale sales of China's passenger NEVs so far this year totaled 11 million units, up 39 percent from a year earlier.

From December 1-8, China's retail sales of all passenger vehicles were 502,000 units, up 32 percent compared with the same period last year and up 11 percent from the same period last month.

So far this year, cumulative retail sales of all passenger vehicles in China totaled 20.76 million units, up 5 percent year-on-year.

This means that China's NEV penetration at retail was 50.80 percent during December 1-8 and 47.45 percent year-to-date.

In the first week of December -- December 1-8 -- the average daily retail sales of passenger cars in China were 62,730 units.

For December 1-8, wholesale sales of all passenger cars in China were 565,000 units, up 55 percent year-on-year and up 6 percent from the same period last month.

During December 1-8, the average daily wholesale sales of passenger cars in China was 70,600 units.

Cumulative year-to-date wholesale sales of passenger cars in China totaled 24.68 million units, up 6 percent year-on-year.
