BYD (HKG: 1211, OTCMKTS: BYDDY) has launched the Sealion 07 EV in Thailand, bringing the electric SUV (sport utility vehicle) model to Southeast Asia after Europe.

The Chinese new energy vehicle (NEV) maker launched the Sealion 07 EV at the 41st Thailand International Motor Expo 2024, which began November 28 in Bangkok, according to an announcement today.

The model has been rebranded as the Sealion 7 in Thailand, the same as BYD has done in the European market.

The Sealion 07 EV is offered in two variants in Thailand, with the Premium rear-wheel drive version starting at 1,149,900 baht ($33,380) and the Performance all-wheel drive version starting at 1,249,900 baht.

The electric SUV is the first model of BYD's e-Platform 3.0 Evo -- an upgraded version of the e-Platform 3.0, and was launched in China on May 10.

The model is currently available in China in four variants, which start at RMB 189,800 ($26,160), RMB 199,800, RMB 219,800, and RMB 239,800.

BYD also showcased models including the BYD Yuan Plus, Dolphin, Seal, BYD M6, BYD Sharak 6 pickup truck, as well as the Denza N7, Denza Z9GT, and Denza D9 at the auto show.

The company hopes to utilize both the BYD and Denza brands to meet the needs of Thai consumers and consolidate its leading position in the Southeast Asian market, BYD said.

Last month, BYD launched the Sealion 07 EV in European markets, including Norway, where the model is also known as the Sealion 7.

BYD sold 506,804 NEVs in November, up 67.87 percent year-on-year and up 0.83 percent from October, according to data it released on December 1.

This includes 504,003 passenger NEVs and 2,801 commercial NEVs.

The BYD Sealion series sold 14,608 units in November, down 24.04 percent from 19,232 in October. The model range includes the Sealion 07, which was launched on May 10, and the Sealion 05 DM-i, which was launched on September 23.

In November, BYD sold 30,977 NEVs in overseas markets, up 1.14 percent year-on-year but down 0.69 percent from October.
