Xpeng CEO hinted at unveiling P7+ sedan in October. The EV maker will hold a new product launch about the X9 MPV later today.
Xpeng (NYSE: XPEV) is shifting its efforts to its new flagship sedan, the P7+, after the launch of the Mona lineup's first model M03.
“Recently a lot of media friends were talking about the Xpeng P7+ ...... See you in October,” He Xiaopeng, the electric vehicle (EV) maker's chairman and CEO, wrote in a Weibo post today , hinting that the model is expected to be officially unveiled next month.
Xpeng is expected to hold its annual 1024 Tech Day event on October 24, and the P7+ is likely to be one of the highlights then.
Before that, the Chinese EV maker will attend the Paris auto show in France from October 14-20, where the P7+ is likely to make its international debut.
Xpeng will showcase the company's latest technology and products for AI (artificial intelligence) vehicles to a global audience on October 14, the EV maker said on September 20 on Weibo.
The P7+ is Xpeng's new model, internally codenamed F57, which CnEVPost mentioned in a July 9 exclusive report that the model will not be using any LiDAR and that the smart driving system will be shifted to a vision-only solution similar to Tesla's (NASDAQ: TSLA).
Last week, Mr. He drove a lightly camouflaged P7+ to the Apsara Conference held by Alibaba, giving the model its real-life debut.
It was the debut of the Xpeng P7+, which is positioned as the world's first AI car, Xpeng said at the time.
In his Weibo post today, Mr. He highlighted the P7+'s interior space, saying that some have dubbed the model a "space monster."
Some said it's a coupe version of an SUV (sport utility vehicle), while others jokingly define it as a five-seat version of an MPV (multi-purpose vehicle), he said.
"As a man who loves technology, I am more than expecting to call it 'the world's first AI car'. I believe it will be a milestone product that will drive the popularization of intelligent driving technology in China. See you in October!" wrote Mr. He.
The Xpeng P7+ entered a regulatory filing catalog with China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) in July, revealing that the all-electric sedan's length, width, and height are 5,056 mm, 1,937 mm, and 1,512 mm, respectively, with a wheelbase of 3,000 mm.
Those dimensions are larger than those of the Xpeng P7i sedan, which measures 4,888 mm in length, 1,896 mm in width and 1,450 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,998 mm.
Separately, Xpeng said it will hold a new product launch event for the X9 MPV starting at 1:30 pm Beijing time today, but didn't provide any more details.
Xpeng officially launched the X9 on January 1 at a starting price of RMB 359,800 ($51,260), the highest priced in its product array.
