BYD has launched compact hybrid SUVs Sealion 05 DM-i and the second-generation Song Pro DM-i, both equipped with the more fuel-efficient DM 5.0 technology.
BYD (HKG: 1211, OTCMKTS: BYDDY) has rolled out two new hybrid models, both equipped with the latest DM 5.0 technology and offering affordable pricing.
The Chinese new energy vehicle (NEV) maker launched the Sealion 05 DM-i and the second-generation Song Pro DM-i at today's launch event, both of which are compact SUVs (sport utility vehicles) with a starting price of RMB 112,800 ($15,980).
Aside from the difference in appearance, these two new models have almost identical specifications, and the corresponding versions are priced the same. They are sold in BYD's Dynasty and Ocean series, respectively.
Sealion 05 DM-i
The Sealion 05 DM-i is a compact five-seater SUV with a length, width and height of 4,710 mm, 1,880 mm and 1,720 mm respectively, and a wheelbase of 2,712 mm.
These dimensions are slightly smaller than those of the Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA) Model Y, which measures 4,750 mm in length, 1,921 mm in width and 1,624 mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 2,890 mm.
The Sealion 05 DM-i is the second model in BYD's Sealion series, following the Sealion 07 EV, and the first plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) in the series.
BYD launched the Sealion 07 EV on May 10, the first battery electric vehicle (BEV) model in its e-Platform 3.0 Evo, a Tesla Model Y competitor.
BYD is offering four variants of the Sealion 05 DM-i with starting prices of RMB 112,800, RMB 122,800, RMB 132,800 and RMB 142,800.
The model is equipped with BYD's fifth-generation DM plug-in hybrid technology and is powered by a 1.5 L displacement engine with a maximum power of 74 kW.
It has a front-mounted single motor with 120 kW of maximum power and 210 Nm of peak torque, and can accelerate from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour in 8.3 seconds or 8.5 seconds.
The Sealion 05 DM-i comes with a blade battery capacity of 12.9 kWh and 18.3 kWh, with a CLTC battery range of 75 km and 115 km respectively.
At full fuel and full charge, the model has a combined range of 1,360 km or 1,400 km, depending on the variant.
2nd-generation Song Pro DM-i
The second generation Song Pro DM-i has one less variant than its predecessor, with four variants starting at RMB 112,800, RMB 122,800, RMB 132,800, and RMB 142,800 respectively.
The Song Pro DM-i Glory Edition, which BYD launched on March 1, was offered in five variants with starting prices of RMB 109,800, RMB 115,800, RMB 122,800, RMB 129,800 and RMB 139,800 respectively.
This means that the starting price of the second-generation Song Pro DM-i has been increased by RMB 3,000 or 2.7 percent over the Song Pro DM-i Glory Edition.
The second-generation Song Pro DM-i measures 4,735 mm in length, 1,860 mm in width and 1,710 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,712 mm. It's slightly shorter than its predecessor, which measured 4,738 mm in length.
The car is also based on the DM 5.0 system and is powered by an engine with a displacement of 1.5 L and a maximum power of 74 kW.
It has an electric motor with a maximum power of 120 kW and a peak torque of 210 Nm, and can accelerate from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour in 8.3 seconds or 8.5 seconds.
The second-generation Song Pro DM-i also offers two range options, with blade batteries of 12.9 kWh and 18.3 kWh, and CLTC pure electric ranges of 75 km and 115 km respectively.
At low power, the model consumes 3.79 L of fuel per 100 km under NEDC conditions, the same as the Sealion 05 DM-i.
